My clinical interests are in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases domestically and as a general practitioner (internist & pediatrician) in low-income countries. My research interests are in using computational biologic methods to study how microbial communities (the microbiome) affect human health and susceptibility to illness, with a particular emphasis on applying my research to impoverished communities globally. I also have a strong interest in medical pedagogy at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Another area of work for me is in the creation of an mHealth software platform for mobile devices designed to educate and empower community health workers and in the process deliver high quality healthcare to resource-poor communities in the developing world, while collecting, analyzing and sharing data with the global public health community.
